This course will cover three important aging services topics, DNR, Mental Health and Resident Rights. By attending this four-hour course the registrant will be able to identify when to honor a DNR, where they are commonly used, how they are to be completed and who should receive one. Attendees will also learn to identify the different mental health disorders and characteristics relating to the disorders, including information on Baker Act, Alzheimer’s disease and specifics on preparing your facility to accept a resident with a mental health diagnosis. Finally this course will cover the importance of respecting and honoring resident’s rights.

Learning Objectives:
  • Identify a Do Not Resuscitate Order and the difference between a DNR and a Living Will
  • Know who to call when resident has a DNRO, and what to ask when providing care to a resident with a DNRO
  • Become familiar with the difference between Mental Illness and Dementia
